Aqua Security Announces Container Image Scanning Support for AWS PrivateLink Available on AWS Marketplace
Extends Aqua's Pay-Per-Scan Service on Amazon Virtual Private Clouds
BURLINGTON, Mass., Nov. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Aqua Security today announced that its security scanning service for container images on Amazon Web Services (AWS) now supports AWS PrivateLink, a new managed service designed to enable customers and partners to connect their virtual private clouds (VPCs) in a secure and scalable manner. With AWS PrivateLink, Aqua customers can now connect to services outside their Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) through service endpoints, using their own private IP addresses and security groups.
AWS PrivateLink allows AWS Marketplace customers to connect to SaaS applications via their Amazon VPC. Aqua's Pay-Per-Scan service, announced last month, is now AWS PrivateLink enabled, providing Amazon VPC customers with a simple way to consume container image scanning on demand within their own VPC without using complicated peering and security configurations or virtual private networks. Aqua allows customers to improve security and helps them meet regulatory requirements such as HIPAA and PCI-DSS.
"With Aqua supporting our new AWS PrivateLink for AWS Marketplace feature, they have leveraged our newest capability to reduce risk and increase security of data moving between Enterprises and SaaS vendors. We are thrilled to have Aqua enabling security for customers using containers on Amazon Virtual Private Cloud," said Dave McCann, Vice President of AWS Marketplace and Catalog Services, Amazon Web Services, Inc. "Aqua's offering is now available to our growing base of 160,000 AWS Marketplace customers worldwide."
Aqua's VPC-Enabled On-Demand Vulnerability Scanner
Aqua's vulnerability scanner automatically connects to the user's registry and scans the desired images on demand. Users are billed via their AWS account. Its core functionality includes:
- Scans container images stored on Amazon EC2 Container Registry (Amazon ECR) and other private registries for known vulnerabilities, secrets, and configuration risks
- Scans both OS packages (RPM, Deb, Alpine) and numerous languages including Java, NodeJS, Python, C/C++, PHP, and Ruby
- Triangulates multiple public, vendor-issued and proprietary CVE data streams to maximize coverage and minimize false positives
- Lists all image packages and layer history
- Detects sensitive data and secrets embedded in Docker images
- Provides vulnerability scores and severities
- Delivers actionable mitigation information to developers, enabling them to fix security flaws
"Having announced a pay-per-scan service for container images on AWS Marketplace earlier this month, we're now enabling security-conscious customers who deploy their workloads on Amazon VPC to enjoy the same level of convenience with enhanced security," said Ran Nahmias, Senior Director of Cloud & Strategic Initiatives, Aqua Security. "This further demonstrates our commitment to our relationship with AWS and to delivering value to enterprises that deploy cloud-native applications."
