This award recognizes the new technology innovations that are helping transform the next generation Wi-Fi services or enable integration of carrier Wi-Fi across technologies, networks and devices. It will be presented on November 20, 2013 at the Wi-Fi Global Congress in Beijing.
New security features have been added to Aptilo SMP to help operators streamline services for users with multiple devices - a growing need as they look to enable integration of carrier Wi-Fi across technologies and devices.
These new innovations are:
- Enabling "trusted" 3GPP Wi-Fi access for all devices in the Wi-Fi ecosystem.
According to the standards, 3GPP Wi-Fi access is limited only to devices such as mobile phones with support for SIM authentication (EAP-SIM/AKA). With this new feature Aptilo SMP extends the highest level of Wi-Fi security, with support for the standardized 3GPP Wi-Fi access, to all devices. - Location-based multi-device login, a patent-pending Aptilo invention that makes an automatic MAC-based authentication for multiple devices more secure by tying them to an active mobile phone, belonging to the same subscriber, which is already authenticated via a secure EAP method at the same location.
"The quality and volume of entries received this year was of an extremely high standard and it was tough for the judging panel to select a shortlist. Carrier Wi-Fi is experiencing a boom in interest with a high level of innovation currently occurring in the industry. This was reflected in the high caliber of submissions this year and I look forward to congratulating the winners personally at the award giving ceremony in Beijing," said Guang Yang, Senior Analyst for Strategy Analytics and Head Judge for the Wi-Fi Industry Awards 2013.
"Aptilo's commitment to innovation puts customers at the cutting edge of the rapidly changing wireless landscape," said Torbjorn Ward, CEO, Aptilo Networks. "With 90+ carrier Wi-Fi installations under our belt, Aptilo knows carrier Wi-Fi service management better than anyone in the industry. We're proud to have our efforts recognized by the WBA."
