BARRANCA, Costa Rica, Feb. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its global objective to minimize environmental and social impacts of its temporary plant sites, APR Energy recently reconditioned one of its former power plants into a community soccer field. The field, located in Barranca, Costa Rica, was officially handed over from APR to its local customer in a ceremony that featured an exhibition soccer match and included former employees along with local school children.

"As a provider of temporary power, we recognize that once we demobilize a power plant, the life of the community must go on," said APR Energy Vice President for The Americas, Tirso Selman. "That is why it is one of our highest priorities to ensure that we not only leave a physical site in as good or better condition as when we started, but we also make a positive impact on the community by providing the local workforce with skills that enable them to prosper once the temporary power contract term ends."
APR Energy implements regular physical site inspections and improvements on its power plants throughout the operational and demobilization phases of the project, helping to prevent or respond to any potential contamination that could occur. Additionally, APR provides valuable technical skills training in multiple fields to its employees that can be carried on to future careers once the APR Energy contract has been completed.
APR Energy had been operating its 90MW temporary project in Barranca since late 2007, supplying power to the Costa Rican national utility.
Currently, APR Energy operates power plants in ten countries globally, and employs over 850 people—over 80 percent of whom are local residents of the community in which they work.
