APR Energy Announces Commercial Operation of 200MW Power Generation Project in Uruguay
MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay, June 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- APR Energy is pleased announce the recent commercial operation of its 200MW temporary power generation project in Uruguay, divided across two sites, La Tablada and Punta del Tigre. The two plants showcase the latest technology in mobile gas turbines, and, together with the additional 100MW of turbines installed by APR Energy last July, now boost Uruguay's electricity production capacity by a total of 300MW.

To celebrate the landmark commercial operation of the two sites, APR Energy was pleased to participate in a ceremony on May 20, hosted by Usinas y Trasmisiones Electricas (UTE), the national utility of Uruguay, attended by key UTE officials and approximately 100 attendees.
"I was marveled with the response that this company has given," said Gonzalo Casaravilla, President of UTE. "We now begin a commercial stage in which we are strategic partners. With the availability of these machines, we will supply the demand in Uruguay and it will allow us to optimize our system. Sincerely, with APR we have had a very good experience."
Through the fast-track deployment, eight mobile turbines travelled via a mix of ocean and air freight to meet a tight operational schedule. The full turnkey 150kV, 100MW solution at Punta del Tigre went into operation in May, bringing APR Energy's total capacity at the site to 200MW. The 100MW plant at La Tablada, which became operational in April, includes 150kV substation equipment for protection and metering. Both sites utilize demineralized water solutions to comply fully with Uruguay's strict emissions standards.
As one of the world's largest providers of mobile gas turbines, APR Energy has now completed over 440MW of fast-track turbine installations in Japan, Uruguay, and Martinique, with an additional 250MW project underway in Libya.
"We are very pleased with the smooth installation of the project, and with the positive working relationship we have with our customer, UTE," said John Campion, Chief Executive Officer of APR Energy. "This project demonstrates that, through our fast-track approach and mobile turbine fleet, we are able to combine scale, speed, and leading-edge technology in a way that has never before been done in our industry. Unlike conventional plants that can take years to fund and install, we can deliver 300MW or more of power generation capacity in a matter of weeks -- something that was previously unheard of."
