Appriss® Wins 5-year Contract to Support Department of Justice Victim Notification System

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Appriss Inc., the nationwide provider of VINE®, has been named Project Performance Company, LLC's (PPC) official partner in a follow-on contract by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to support the enhancement, operation, and maintenance of the federal Victim Notification System (VNS).

According to the Justice Department, the Crime Victims Fund (the Fund), established by the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 (VOCA), is a major funding source for victim services throughout the Nation. Millions of dollars have been deposited into the Fund annually from criminal fines, forfeited bail bonds, penalties, and special assessments collected by U.S. Attorneys' Offices, federal U.S. courts, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.  Learn more at the Office for Victims of Crime's Web site.

Among other rights set forth in the Crime Victim's Rights Act (CVRA), victims have the right to reasonable, accurate, and timely notice of any public court proceeding, or any parole proceeding, involving the crime or of any release or escape of the accused.

Where possible, all victim information and notifications in criminal cases that have been accepted for prosecution from federal investigative agencies are made available (in both English and Spanish) by means of the Department of Justice's Victim Notification System (VNS).  VNS provides customized notifications to victims via letter, email, automated call center, outbound phone calls, fax, and secure Internet portal.
