Criminal justice information portal available to those who share data
LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Sheriffs across the country can now access the nation's largest criminal justice information sharing portal free of charge. Appriss, the technology provider for JusticeXchange, is making the service available at no cost to sheriffs who share data.
"Appriss recognizes that sheriffs are facing tough economic times and wanted to do our part to help," said Brian Oldham, executive vice president of Appriss' Information Services Group. "Information sharing is critical to solving crimes quickly and efficiently. Since we offer a diverse suite of fee-based services, we are able to offer JusticeXchange at no cost."
Sheriffs and other law enforcement agencies have reported great success with JusticeXchange over the years. It is used to locate offenders, monitor probationers and parolees, track down non-custodial parents, set up watches for wanted persons or suspects, and locate non-compliant sex offenders among other tasks. The service is able to query thousands of criminal justice databases across the country at once.
JusticeXchange is already available in 21 states across the country and currently includes more than 46 million booking records. It is also being utilized by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), Immigration and Customers Enforcement Office of Detention and Removal, Office of the Inspector General, and United States Marshals Service.
"Sheriffs can gain free access to JusticeXchange by contributing booking data from jail management systems in near real-time," said Oldham. "Sheriffs' offices can access their own state's booking data 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any Web-based computer."
Appriss announced the free offering during the National Sheriffs' Association annual conference in Anaheim, California.
