Appriss and California work to enhance criminal investigations
Near real-time booking data benefits law enforcement
LOUISVILLE, Ky., Dec. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Appriss Inc. and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) are pleased to announce that the CDCR is implementing JusticeXchange, the Appriss program that allows criminal justice professionals to search a near real-time database to find wanted persons who are jailed elsewhere.
Under the agreement, the CDCR's booking data will be uploaded to JusticeXchange, thus making it easier for criminal justice professionals throughout the state to locate criminals, find non-compliant parents in child custody cases or identify and prosecute individuals who are illegally obtaining state benefits (ex: prisoners applying for/receiving unemployment insurance).
"This is a great tool for our law enforcement community," said CDCR acting secretary Martin Hoshino. "Criminal investigators will be able to go to a single site to search for people they're looking for. They'll know in near real-time if that person has been booked into one of our facilities. It will save time and money, and help us make sure that wanted persons get caught and pay for their crimes."
Investigators can also place a "watch" on a suspect and be notified almost instantly if that person is booked into another facility.
"Appriss is pleased to provide this service for California," said Paul Colangelo, Appriss president. "Many times, a wanted person that an investigator is looking for is in custody somewhere else. With JusticeXchange, they'll be able to find that person in one simple search and take the appropriate action."
JusticeXchange is free for the CDCR, since the department already uses Appriss' VINE® (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) program. VINE lets crime victims register to be notified of custody changes in the status of their offenders.
