Apply by April 26 for All-Expenses-Paid Seminar on 'Covering the Green Economy' Featuring Best-Selling Author Jeff Goodell

PHOENIX, April 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Jeff Goodell, investigative journalist and author of "How to Cool the Planet," will headline the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism's "Covering the Green Economy" seminar June 28-30 in Phoenix.

This specialized reporting institute on the intersection between business and the environment is available to 20 journalists, who will receive all-expenses-paid fellowships. The deadline to apply for a fellowship is April 26.

The seminar's other speakers include Susanne Rust, co-author of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Pulitzer-finalist investigation into toxic goods; award-winning environmental reporter Craig Pittman of the St. Petersburg Times; green transportation expert Jim Motavalli; investigative reporter Russ Choma; and Pulitzer-winning journalist Irene Virag.

Through the generous support of the McCormick Foundation, fellowships cover the full cost of training, lodging, materials and most meals. In addition, fellows receive a $450 stipend to help offset travel and other costs.

Keynote speaker Goodell is a contributing editor at Rolling Stone and the author of five books, including the best-seller, "Our Story: 77 Hours That Tested Our Friendship and Our Faith," based on the terrifying hours nine Quecreek miners spent trapped underground, and "Big Coal: The Dirty Secret Behind America's Energy Future." His latest book is "How to Cool the Planet: Geoengineering and the Audacious Quest to Fix Earth's Climate."

The seminar also features experts from Arizona State University's School of Sustainability, the first in the nation, as well as forward-thinking business owners grappling with sustainability challenges.

This three-day seminar, and two follow-up Webinars, will help attendees track stimulus money earmarked for green efforts, cover the growing industry of eco-friendly cars and follow trends in food sustainability. Fellows will learn how to quantify sustainability in industries including health care, construction, solar, water and coal. Check out the full agenda.

The seminar will be held at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in downtown Phoenix. It will include a trip to the Tempe campus for sessions in the university's Decision Theater, a lab that provides organizations with tools to address sustainability challenges.
