LANSDOWNE, Va., Sept. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation announced the opening of its College Scholarship Program, which provides recipients with up to $40,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study. In addition to the monetary award, students selected as Cooke Scholars will receive college planning support, ongoing advising, and are welcomed into the thriving community of fellow scholars and alumni.
This year, students will apply to the Cooke College Scholarship exclusively via the Common App online application platform.
"Talented students with financial need encounter many obstacles while applying to selective colleges and universities," said Seppy Basili, the Foundation's executive director. "We're excited to streamline our application to ensure that students have more time to focus on the demands and deadlines of their college applications."
"By enabling potential Cooke Scholars to complete their Common App and their Cooke College Scholarship application at the same time, we hope to eliminate some of the barriers for students associated with managing multiple applications, and instead enable them to focus on presenting their best selves to prospective colleges and universities," said Jenny Rickard, President and CEO of The Common Application.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must:
- Plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2019.
- Intend to enroll full time in an accredited four-year college in fall 2019.
- Earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above in high school.
- Receive a minimum SAT total of 1200 or ACT composite of 26.
- Demonstrate financial need.
The Foundation received more than 5,000 completed applications last year and selected 106 Cooke Scholars. Before heading to campus this fall, the new scholars gathered together at the Foundation's annual Scholars Weekend event to network with their cohort and attend college and career workshops led by program alumni.
The final deadline to submit a completed application is November 20, 2018. The Cooke College Scholarship application will close at midnight in the applicant's local time zone.
