Appirio Forms World's Largest Professional Crowdsourcing Community of Swift Developers; Partners Challenge Community To Develop Enterprise Apps Based on Apple's New Programming Language
Topcoder Community of Swift Developers Grows to More Than 3,700 Across 110 Countries In Just Nine Weeks
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Appirio, a global cloud consultancy, today announced that its topcoder crowdsourcing community has grown its Swift-experienced developers to over 3,700 since the launch of the company's "GetSwifter" Challenge Series on August 19, creating the largest group of developers on the new Swift platform in just nine weeks. Additionally, there have been more than 2,000 project submissions and registrants from more than 110 countries. The GetSwifter Challenge Series offers topcoder community members an opportunity to learn and sharpen their skills on Apple's new programing language and compete for up to $500,000 in cash and prizes.
"The ability to quickly engage with a community of developers as large as Appirio's topcoder community, get them educated on a new, modern programming language in a matter of weeks, and then actually build apps for customers, speaks to the sophistication of the platform and the viability of crowdsourcing as the most effective way to increase innovation and more cost-effectively deliver solutions," said Chris Barbin, CEO, Appirio. "We've been blown away by the global involvement in the GetSwifter campaign from our developer community and have already partnered with some of the biggest brands in the world which want to leverage our highly-skilled talent pool to move their enterprise-level Swift projects forward."
HP IDOL OnDemand has joined the growing list of GetSwifter campaign partners to engage with the 700,000 topcoder member community of data scientists, developers and designers to build enterprise iOS and OS X applications. HP is challenging the community's Swift developers to build a new generation of applications integrated with its IDOL OnDemand APIs that make it easy for developers to process the unstructured and hard to get data that comes from "human information" on a user's mobile device. "We continue to make significant investments in nurturing the next generation of mobile applications developers, and Swift allows these developers to achieve new levels of innovation with IDOL OnDemand for the breadth of iOS devices," said Sean Hughes, program manager, HP IDOL OnDemand. "While the release of Swift opens up new opportunities, it also presents a challenge to make certain that the best developers in the world are helping to create these compelling applications. Appirio's topcoder community is comprised of developers with the broad set of experiences needed to drive unprecedented innovation on the new Swift platform and do it in a matter of days rather than weeks or months."
Current partners of the GetSwifter Challenge Series, including BMC Software, Booz Allen Hamilton, Brivo Labs and HARMAN, have introduced new details on their projects for creating next generation mobile and enterprise Web applications and designs for iPhones, iPads, and Macs using Swift.
HARMAN is running a developer challenge to create an app that will expand the functions of its multi-room wireless speakers and transform them into a whole-home entertainment experience, while Brivo Labs wants to build a robust visitor check-in app that utilizes a QR code that notifies the event host that they have arrived when scanned. Booz Allen Hamilton is using topcoder to build a mobile incident reporting and personal security app in the style of a 311 reporting application and BMC Software will create a planning and schedule app for its state-of-the-art Executive Briefing Center (EBC).
