APMA Named a Top Workplace by The Washington Post
WASHINGTON, June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) today announced it has been selected as one of The Washington Post's Top Workplaces. The Top Workplaces are determined based solely on results of an anonymous feedback survey completed by employees. APMA was one of 150 organizations awarded the distinction, selected from the over 1,600 companies evaluated in the Washington, D.C. area.
"We're honored to be recognized as a Top Workplace by The Washington Post," said Glenn B. Gastwirth, DPM, executive director and CEO of APMA. "We credit our success to the amazing people in our APMA family, including our incredible member volunteers, corporate partners, and highly educated and qualified staff who are experts in their fields."
APMA leadership encourages employees to strike a positive balance between their home and professional lives. Employees enjoy generous paid vacation and sick leave, and the APMA offices close the week between Christmas and New Year's. Flexible schedules allow employees to work while also pursuing advanced degrees, managing childcare responsibilities, attending family functions, and more.
"We do our best to create a comfortable work environment that encourages innovation, productivity, and excellence," said Dr. Gastwirth. "Our family values seem to engender strong loyalty— nearly half of APMA's employees have been with the association for more than 15 years, and several employees have been with the organization for more than 25 years."
APMA also provides regular opportunities for staff to socialize and collaborate, with healthy breakfast staff meetings, "cake days" to celebrate staff birthdays, community service activities, and yearly events including a summer picnic, tailgate, recognition dinner, and holiday parties. Employees can also take advantage of free financial planning services, head and neck massages, and an employee assistance program.
