APHA and Piktochart launch public health infographic contest
WASHINGTON, Feb. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Public Health Association in collaboration with Piktochart today announced the launch of a public health infographic contest to get different perspectives on what public health and prevention mean nationwide. Awards and winners will be announced April 1-7 to coincide with the observance of National Public Health Week.
The contest will award prizes to winners including free registration to the 2013 APHA Annual Meeting in Boston and the opportunity to present their infographic at a session during the meeting. Submissions will be placed into four public health categories — local, state, national and global — with one winner selected from each.
Infographic submissions due by 11:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, 2013, must relate to the National Public Health Week theme, "Public Health is ROI: Save Lives, Save Money," to convey the return on investment of public health systems. Individuals or teams of up to five are eligible and may include health departments, students, federal agencies and all other entities.
Submissions must be emailed to APHA at [email protected] and use Piktochart, an online infographic software for users of all skill levels. Infographics — visual representations of information — are becoming increasingly popular tools for sharing important but complex messages.
APHA has served as lead organizer for National Public Health Week since 1995, with each year including a national campaign to educate the public, policymakers and practitioners about issues related to public health. The campaign is made possible by funding from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
