APERIO Systems Selected as One of the World's Most Promising Energy Startups by Free Electrons
Industrial cybersecurity startup selected out of 450 applicants worldwide for inaugural cohort of Free Electrons Global Energy Startup Accelerator Program
HAIFA, Israel, May 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
APERIO Systems, the company providing the last line of defense for protecting industrial control systems and increasing resilience against cyberattacks, today announced that it was selected to participate in the Free Electrons 2017 Cohort as one of the world's most innovative energy startups. An alliance of eight international utilities, the Free Electrons global energy startup accelerator program, is committed to transforming the energy market with next-generation ideas. APERIO Systems was one of 12 companies (and the only cybersecurity company) selected from over 450 applications across 51 countries.
APERIO Systems' proprietary Data Forgery ProtectionTM (DFP) technology detects artificial manipulations of industrial process data in real time to safeguard industrial control systems, provide true state awareness, and allow operational resilience and quick and effective remediation without disruption to business.
"Utility companies are not typically regarded for innovation in the energy and power space, which is why the Free Electrons program is so exciting, uniting major players with innovative newcomers," said Michael Shalyt, CEO, APERIO Systems. "APERIO Systems' participation in Free Electrons enables us to be part of a group of startups that have the ability to radically advance the energy industry and we're greatly honored to take part in the conversation."
"While we had hundreds of stand out applicants, we are extremely pleased with the companies who have been selected for the first cohort of our global energy startup accelerator program," said Hendrik Tiesinga, Program Manager of Free Electrons. "With their focus on industrial cybersecurity, APERIO Systems' selection underscores the importance that utility companies are placing on protecting critical infrastructure."
Free Electrons consists of three one-week modules across four countries. The program kicks off this week in Silicon Valley followed by Lisbon, Dublin, and Singapore with the goal of facilitating the development of business collaborations between the startups and utility companies, and to gain exposure into international markets.
Free Electrons is backed by an international alliance of utilities and accelerators: AusNet Services, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), ESB (Electricity Supply Board), EDP (Energias de Portugal), Innogy, Origin Energy, SP Group and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), with the support of accelerator partners, New Energy Nexus, swissnex San Francisco, Energy Excelerator, Powerhouse and Beta-i.
