Apelon Provides Products and Services to Support Canadian Healthcare Data Standardization
Canada Health Infoway Selects Apelon to Provide Interoperability Tools That Will Assist Deployment of Pan-Canadian Terminology Standards
RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Apelon, Inc., a leading provider of terminology and data interoperability solutions, today announced that it has been selected by Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) to provide the tools and associated services to support the deployment of SNOMED CT across Canada.
SNOMED CT is a comprehensive health and clinical terminology. By using Apelon's Distributed Terminology Systems (DTS) vocabulary server, TermWorks® data mapping tools, and the support of Apelon's experienced consultants, Infoway will be able to assist Canadian provinces, territories, and other stakeholders looking to implement standardized, interoperable clinical data.
Infoway is an independent, not-for-profit corporation created in Canada to foster and accelerate the development and adoption of EHR systems with compatible standards and communication technologies. Infoway has called upon Apelon to provide tools to help Canadian organizations implement interoperable terminologies, such as SNOMED CT, in their EHRs. Making Apelon uniquely qualified for the project is the comprehensive functionality of tools they offer along with the unrivaled capabilities of their consulting group that will be supporting the integration activities.
- The open source DTS vocabulary server and associated support services will be used to manage the creation of SNOMED CT derivatives, such as reference sets, and enable the distribution of these derivatives to Canadian stakeholders.
- The TermWorks data mapping solution will help organizations map their current local clinical terminologies to the pan-Canadian standards.
- Apelon's consultants will assist in Infoway's deployment of the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization (IHTSDO) Workbench software. The Workbench is a comprehensive international terminology tool for managing the pan-Canadian SNOMED CT release.
"We are honored to have been selected by Infoway for this initiative," said Stephen Coady, Apelon's President and CEO. "Our experience with similar projects in the U.S. and in regions around the world is that progress is best made by integrating existing tools such as DTS, TermWorks and the IHTSDO Workbench to achieve practical results. We are excited about what Canada is doing, and very impressed by their plans and process."
More information about the project will be available at the upcoming Fall 2011 Infoway Partnership Conference being held November 21-23, at the Marriott Halifax Harbourfront, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Beverly Knight, Infoway's Terminology Manager and Jack Bowie, ScD, Apelon Senior Vice President, will present Tools for Semantic Interoperability on Monday, November 21.
