Apangea Math Selected by Indiana for a State-Wide Web-Based Math Intervention Program
35,000 students throughout Indiana to receive one-on-one differentiated math instruction
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Apangea Learning, a leading provider of supplemental online math tutoring, was selected by the Indiana Department of Education for a math intervention program. 35,000 middle and high school students will receive one-student-to-one-teacher differentiated math instruction and tutoring through Apangea's online math program.
"One of our top priorities for improving instruction in our schools is to cultivate and promote world-class, research-based K-12 reading and math programs," Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett said. "Apangea is an innovative, student-focused program that we will strategically implement to help the students who need it most. I look forward to seeing our students gain confidence and proficiency in the important math skills and concepts outlined in Indiana's academic standards."
Apangea is partnering with Briljent LLC to offer state-wide "Family Math Nights," a key part to the Parent Engagement section of Apangea's Indiana Math Intervention Plan. The goal of "Family Math Nights" is to inform parents of math tutoring options, provide an opportunity to enroll their student and set up a parent account.
"With the Indiana Math Intervention Plan we have a significant opportunity to provide students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed and this program is essential to gaining the support of their parents," said Louis Piconi, Chief Education Officer, Vice President of National Accounts and Co-Founder for Apangea. "We are seeing tremendous success in our State-Wide Implementation Programs where parents are becoming active participants in their children's learning."
Added Piconi, "This fall we will also be launching The Hoosier Math Cup, a state-focused motivational contest, online parent pages, and parent text updates."
The Indiana Department of Education chose Apangea Math in a competitive-bidding process. It is the vision of the DOE that the academic achievement and career preparation of all Indiana students be the best in the country. Implementing a state-wide mathematics program became part of the action plan to achieve this vision.
Indiana's adoption of Apangea Math is Apangea Learning's second state-wide implementation. The Idaho State Department of Education began implementing Apangea Math in 2008 as part of its Idaho Math Initiative, a comprehensive effort to improve student achievement in math. The math program's usage has rapidly expanded since 2008 to more than 40,000 students as test scores improved dramatically.
