Anthem College - Kansas City Introduces Veterinary Technology Program
KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Anthem College – Kansas City introduces a Veterinary Technology program to its roster of career-focused and education programs.
Job prospects for veterinary technicians are growing, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 edition. In fact, employment of veterinary technicians is expected to grow 36 percent over the 2008-18 projection period, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Pet owners are becoming more affluent and more willing to pay for advanced veterinary care because many of them consider their pet to be part of the family, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
"Veterinary Technicians are a vital member of the veterinary health care team," said Marilyn Knight, president of Anthem College in Kansas City. "We're pleased to introduce this unique program to individuals interested in the care and treatment of animals."
Veterinary Technicians perform a wide variety of tasks in the veterinary field. The tasks may include obtaining samples for diagnostic testing; performing diagnostic tests in a laboratory environment for use in the prevention, treatment, and diagnosis of diseases in animals; preparing vaccines and serums for the prevention of diseases; providing nursing care to patients; taking diagnostic radiographs; assisting with anesthesia; preparing instruments, supplies, and patients for surgery; and client education.
Graduates of this program are eligible for entry level positions in large and small animal veterinary practices, veterinary hospitals, humane societies, animal shelters and animal research facilities.
Established in 2003, Anthem College in Kansas City, located at 9001 State Line Road, also offers both Associate of Applied Science Degree and diploma programs in Dental Assistant, Massage Therapy, Medical Assistant, Medical Billing & Coding and Surgical Technologist.
