Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Donates $10,000 to Mile High American Red Cross for Wildfire Relief Efforts
Anthem also adjusts pharmacy guidelines for Colorado members impacted by Fourmile Canyon and Reservoir Road fires
DENVER, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Colorado today announced a $10,000 donation to the Mile High American Red Cross to help with relief efforts for the Fourmile Canyon fire in Boulder and Reservoir Road fire outside of Loveland.
In addition, Anthem has revised its pharmacy guidelines to help members who are directly impacted by either of the two wildfires and need immediate access to prescription drugs. Anthem has suspended early refill limits for prescription medication for all members who are or were under a mandatory evacuation order.
The Red Cross provided nearly 1,700 meals to evacuees and emergency responders during the Fourmile Canyon fire, the most destructive blaze in the state's history, and continues to provide emergency services for residents affected by the Reservoir Road fire.
"The American Red Cross has provided vital shelter, food and health services to the evacuees from both fires and will continue to play a role in helping affected residents recover in the coming months," said John Martie, president and general manager of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Colorado. "We're proud to support the Red Cross' efforts, and by offering this suspension of early refill limits for prescription drugs we hope to give residents affected by the fires one less thing to worry about."
The American Red Cross is one of six charities that Anthem and parent company WellPoint Inc. support during their Annual Associate Giving Campaign. The American Red Cross this year received more than $500,000 from companywide associate pledges and WellPoint Foundation matching dollars made during last year's campaign.
These revisions apply to affected members who are covered by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, UniCare, WellPoint NextRx and WellPoint affiliated health plans in Colorado. More information on WellPoint's affiliated health plans can be found at http://www.wellpoint.com/business/about_family.asp.
These revised pharmacy guidelines are effective from Sept. 9 through Sept. 23. At that time, it will be determined if these guidelines need to be extended.
For additional questions, members should call the phone number on the back of their membership card. If they do not have their card, they should call 1-866-417-7107.
