Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Associates in Nevada Volunteer to Help Local Organizations During Third Annual Community Service Day

LAS VEGAS, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 65 Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield associates and their friends and families joined forces to participate in the parent company's national Community Service Day. These efforts helped dozens of organizations across the state.

"Coming together on Community Service Day allows each of us to bring that commitment to life in an everyday way. For the past three years, we have worked with community organizations to collaborate on projects and services that impact each of our communities and we are proud to continue that effort this year."

Coinciding with Points of Light & Hands On Network's National Volunteer Week, Anthem associates volunteered at several nonprofit organizations, such as:

• Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, in Reno, where Anthem associates planted fruit trees, worked in the community garden and did general clean up.
• Food Bank of Northern Nevada, where associates packed food barrels and made donation boxes.
• Opportunity Village, in Las Vegas, where associates painted and rebuilt props for the organization's annual "Magical Forest."

In 2009, the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation also granted nearly $190.000 to community organizations in Nevada. In addition, Anthem gifted more than $100,000 to civic and charitable organizations through its community relations support. And, through Anthem's associate giving campaign, which included a 50 percent match from the parent company's foundation, Anthem associates pledged more than $15,000 to help Nevada nonprofit organizations.
