Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Associates in Colorado Volunteer to Help Local Organizations During Third Annual Community Service Day

DENVER, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 200 Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield associates and their friends and families joined forces on Saturday, April 24th, to participate in the parent company's national Community Service Day. These efforts helped dozens of organizations across the state.

"Coming together on Community Service Day allows each of us to bring that commitment to life in an everyday way. For the past three years, we have worked with community organizations to collaborate on projects and services that impact each of our communities and we are proud to continue that effort this year."

Coinciding with Points of Light & Hands On Network's National Volunteer Coinciding with Points of Light & Hands On Network's National Volunteer Week, Anthem associates:

• Sorted and packed medical supplies and equipment for Project Cure to send to foreign countries in need.

• Planted trees and set up an outdoor area for the Delores Project -- an overnight shelter for homeless women.

• Painted and cleaned food storage areas for the Colorado AIDS Project's Food Bank.

• Built a retaining wall, planted flowers and did small construction projects for Parent Pathways, a school for teen mothers.

In addition, last year, Anthem, through its parent company foundation, direct corporate support and associate donations, contributed more than $600,000 to Colorado civic and charitable organizations and causes.
