ANSI Announces 2018 Student Paper and Video Competition: "Standards in a Changing World"

NEW YORK, Aug. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), in conjunction with its Committee on Education (CoE), is pleased to announce its seventh annual student competition as part of its ongoing efforts to spread awareness among postsecondary students of the strategic significance of standards and conformance. The challenge requires applicants to submit a video or paper that reflect the 2018 theme: "Standards in a Changing World."

Entries are due by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, April 27, 2018, and must be submitted by college or university student(s) at the associate, undergraduate, or graduate level enrolled in a U.S. academic institute of higher learning. The competition is open to both full- and part-time students of all disciplines.

Standards have a tremendous impact on modern communication, as visual and image-based products and resources such as electronic records, smart phones, and the Internet of Things, for example, help us connect and operate. And as innovations evolve, there is even more potential for standards to support a better future. Entrants are asked to consider: How have standards made 21^st-century communications possible, and how can standards themselves – which can be very text heavy, technical, and dense – change to reflect the visual nature of global communications today?  

Contest submissions can take one of two forms: a paper (maximum 2,000 words) or a video (maximum 2 minutes). Participants may enter both categories, but an individual can only win one category. All entries will be reviewed by top-level industry experts, and winning papers will be published on ANSI.org, StandardsBoostBusiness.org, StandardsLearn.org, and potentially in other media outlets. Winning submissions will be read by a large number of members of the standards community, including experts in government, industry, professional societies, and academic institutions.

A cash prize will be awarded to the 1^st place winner in each category.  ANSI reserves the right to award no prizes based on the determination of the judges. Winning papers will be announced in June 2018.
