WASHINGTON, Dec. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Progressive Shopper is excited to announce the launch of a new platform and web extension that is now available for download on Google Chrome. Progressive Shopper empowers consumers to shop their values by providing current data on the political contributions of the most popular brands. Corporations spend billions each year funding political candidates, and while the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) collects this data and makes it available to the public, it lives in large databases that are hard to access, until now. Progressive Shopper does the research and consolidates the data into a user friendly color coding system that provides consumers with easy to understand data at the point of purchase, giving them the confidence to shop with brands that align with their values or find an alternative.
"Consumers today aren't content buying whatever marketers put in front of them, but instead want to consciously choose brands and companies that fit with their values," said Progressive Shopper Co-Founder Van Chappell. "Progressive Shopper helps them do that with a tool that's as easy to use as it is informational."
"Americans only have an opportunity to have their voice heard at the ballot box once every two years," said Progressive Shopper Co-Founder Mark Hanis. "But by shopping with brands that support what you support, and not giving your money to those that don't, you can make your voice heard every single day and hold the private sector accountable."
When users download the web extension and then visit a popular online retailer, they will see a flag in the upper right hand corner of their browser that will indicate, based on the flag's color, whether that brand donates primarily to Democrats (blue), Republicans (red) or in a bipartisan way (purple). Users who are interested in more information on any particular retailer can click on the flag which opens a new window where they will find details on the political giving of that company, including both an overall contribution and a breakdown of giving by PAC and employees. By aggregating the data across all major competitors in a single industry, Progressive Shopper is informing users on the political givings of a corporation and also providing alternative retailers at the point of purchase.
Progressive Shopper pulls data from the FEC and the determinations on the site are sourced from contributions made during the 2016 election cycle and the 2018 election cycle up through September 18, 2018. You can find more details on what FEC data is used at http://www.progressiveshopper.com/how-it-works/.
Interested users can visit www.ProgressiveShopper.com to download the web extension for Chrome and begin putting their money where their values are today.
