Annenberg Space for Photography Announces Special Events and Programs in Conjunction with New Exhibition LIFE: A Journey Through Time by Frans Lanting
Photography workshops, film screenings, lectures and a family fun festival with live animals, among event highlights
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Annenberg Space for Photography today announced a series of special events and programs inspired by the exhibition LIFE: A Journey Through Time, on view at the Photography Space through March 20, 2016. The exhibition presents a photographic interpretation of life on Earth from the Big Bang to the present by acclaimed National Geographic photographer Frans Lanting. Based on Lanting's epic, multi-year project, LIFE explores the story of our planet from its earliest beginnings to its present diversity, captured in over 70 images that evoke the complex wonder of nature through time. LIFE-related programming at Skylight Studios kicks off with a special event, a free Family Fun Weekend on October 24 and 25, and will continue with photography workshops, film screenings and the Annenberg Space for Photography's signature programming, the Iris Nights lecture series that delve into the natural world, from plants and animals to the solar system.

Come celebrate the opening of LIFE: A Journey Through Time with two days of fun for the whole family. STAR Eco Station will bring their exotic rescue animals for two meet-and-greet sessions on Saturday, October 24, and Wildlife Waystation will be bringing their animals by on Sunday, October 25. Afterwards, round out the day with a drop-in storytime with Books and Cookies and face painting. Mom & Pop Shop's popsicle cart will be on site with delicious homemade treats available for purchase. |

Roll up your sleeves and join Cherie Marquez of LaFleur Kitchen with this hands-on kokedama/ iPhoneography workshop. Kokedama, which means "moss ball," is the Japanese art form of enclosing a plant's root mass in moss. First, students will learn the basics of creating these beautiful moss balls and build a three-piece garden set for their homes. Then, Cherie will share how she photographs her work, with tips and tricks for composition and editing using an iPhone, with an eye towards posting images on social media. |

LIFE: A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME
IRIS NIGHTS LECTURE SERIES
With the Iris Nights lecture series inspired by LIFE: A Journey Through Time, guests and live stream viewers can hear from world-renowned photographers about photographing a range of wildlife on land and under the sea; as well as shooting on location in remote Canadian landscapes, the wetlands of the Florida Everglades and here in the Santa Monica Mountains. Lecturers will discuss ways to merge photography and conservation in the U.S. and abroad. 2016 Iris Nights highlights include a January 7 event with National Geographic Fellow Joel Sartore; exhibition photographer Frans Lanting's talk "Eye to Eye with LIFE" on February 11 and Vice President and Director of the Annenberg Foundation Charles Annenberg Weingarten's presentation "explore.org, Never Stop Learning" on February 25.
