ANGA Statement on President Obama's National Clean Fleets Partnership
WASHINGTON, April 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Background: America's Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) Executive Vice President Tom Amontree issued the following statement on President Obama's announcement today that he was launching a National Clean Fleets Partnership Program that recognizes the benefits of natural gas vehicles.
"This was a big week for everyone who cares about U.S. energy security, clean transportation and the price at the pump. It is highly significant that the President of the United States, for the second time in a single week, has noted the vital contribution natural gas vehicles can make to reducing our nation's dependence on foreign energy and promoting clean air in our communities.
"In making his announcement at a UPS facility today, the President selected a company that has a fleet of more than 1,100 natural gas delivery trucks. It is encouraging to see UPS, alongside other leading U.S. companies like Verizon and AT&T, receiving much-deserved national attention for their extraordinary leadership in advancing cleaner, American transportation with natural gas.
"Natural gas vehicles outperform conventional fuels with a significantly higher octane rating, better fuel efficiency and lower operating costs - all while offering dramatic reductions in emissions. And, with the price of natural gas nearing half that of traditional gasoline, greater use of natural gas vehicles is a smart business decision, as well. We are pleased that the President is recognizing these benefits and making the case for greater use of our nation's vast natural gas resources to help address our country's energy challenges."
