ANGA Statement on Penn State University Study Showing Doubling of Natural Gas Job Gains in Pennsylvania in 2010
WASHINGTON, May 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Background: America's Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) President and CEO Regina Hopper issued the following statement on a report released today by Penn State University showing jobs and economic growth as a result of natural gas development in Pennsylvania. The study shows natural gas production in Pennsylvania from the Marcellus shale could generate more than $8 billion in economic benefits this year and add more than 88,000 jobs in the state - double the number created in 2009.
"As the Penn State University study shows, production of clean, abundant natural gas is bringing thousands of jobs to communities throughout Pennsylvania. The game-changing development of natural gas supplies in shale regions has great potential to improve the economic well-being of communities across the United States, while providing access to a clean domestic energy source. Based on the results of this study, the near-term outlook for natural gas in Pennsylvania is even more robust than anticipated last year. The report's estimates about job and economic growth are particularly heartening at a time when the country is still working toward economic recovery."
"Natural gas supported more than 2.8 million American jobs in 2008, and could add many more across the country in the years to come. The natural gas community looks forward to playing a more active role in powering our nation's clean energy economy, and this Penn State report offers a compelling case study of what other states have to gain from following Pennsylvania's path to clean energy-fueled growth."
"The United States is blessed with a vast supply of natural gas, thanks to the abundance we now know exists in shale formations throughout the country. This ensures vast and stable supplies of this domestic energy source for generations."
