LONDON, Sept. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Aon plc (NYSE:AON) today announced that Andy Weitz, 37, will become Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications on October 1st. Weitz was most recently president and CEO of the U.S. region for Hill + Knowlton Strategies, a global business advisory firm serving corporations, non-profits and associations, including Aon.
In this newly created role, Weitz will lead Aon external corporate communications and oversee corporate citizenship. He will also be responsible for defining Aon's content marketing strategy and building an integrated approach to product marketing. Weitz will report to Phil Clement, Aon's Global Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, and will serve as a member of the company's Executive Leadership Team.
"Our marketing and communications teams across the company have done a tremendous job of raising brand awareness and creating a more unified firm in recent years," said Clement. "At the same time, the company has advanced its mission and it is time for us to tell the Aon story in a way that helps all constituencies understand the many ways we empower results for our clients, communities and colleagues."
Aon's president and CEO Greg Case added, "Andy has long been a trusted business advisor and we are thrilled to have him join our team full-time. He is a skilled communicator who knows our industry and understands the role of strategic marketing and communications in achieving our business objectives. Most importantly, we know him well and are confident that his thoughtful and collaborative approach will resonate with our colleagues around the world."
"I began my career in the insurance industry and have always admired Aon," said Weitz. "The opportunity to work closely with the team over the last few years has given me a new appreciation for the breadth of Aon's offerings. I'm honored and excited to join the strong team at Aon and help communicate that leadership position to the marketplace."
At Hill + Knowlton, Weitz served as U.S. COO and Vice-Chair of the global corporate practice before becoming president and CEO of the U.S. region. During that time he provided strategic counsel to the company's largest clients, including leaders in the finance, technology and retail sectors. He also led the company's award-winning research into corporate character and advised companies on the business value of aligning brand and reputation management with their operating strategy.
Prior to this, Weitz played multiple leadership roles in the risk management sector. First, he served as president of insuranceOrder.com an early innovator in online insurance that was acquired by Marsh, Inc. At Marsh, he was a member of the strategic planning team and helped develop its approach to product development as national practice leader of the Solution Development Group. Subsequent to that, he ran commercial insurance operations at Trilogy Insurance Services, a technology company that provided predictive modeling services to leading agencies and carriers.
Weitz has a Bachelor of Arts from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California and a Masters of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
