Android Enthusiasts Answer LG's QPair™ Developers Challenge
Finalists Announced in LG and XDA Developers Challenge; Competing to Win Highly Anticipated LG G Watch R
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics today announced 9 finalists in the "LG Developers Challenge" vying for the app judged to best take advantage of LG's exclusive QPair software development kit (SDK).
Along with partner XDA Developers, one of the world's largest online communities of mobile software developers, LG issued a challenge to all Android developers to submit entries for new QPair apps. The QPair SDK enables developers to further imagine the world of converged experiences by creating apps that seamlessly pair Android tablets and smartphones, leveraging benefits from both form factors.
Android developers were invited to submit nominations for apps they sought to build with LG's QPair SDK. Judged by a panel of experts from both LG and XDA, the 9 finalists were selected from dozens of entries based on innovation, ingenuity and originality.
LG's QPair functionality makes seamless connectivity between Android-powered tablets and smartphones convenient via a simple Bluetooth connection. Users can receive notifications of calls and messages on their smartphone and respond directly from the G Pad, stream online media, change settings and answer calls, as well as sync and share documents, photos and videos.
This year, the market has seen an uptick in smartphone display size. The LG G3 was the first in the United States to sport a 5.5-inch Quad HD display. With its stunning 2560 x 1440 IPS screen, the LG G3 has been touted by consumers and industry pundits alike as one of the best smartphones of the year.
The trend in users enjoying larger smartphones is complementing tablet adoption. LG expanded its line of G Pad tablets that now come in various sizes, including a 7.0-, 8.3- and 10.1-inch series. This is to appeal to users' needs for productivity, multi-tasking and entertainment that can't be replicated on smartphones, while being more portable and convenient than laptop devices.
The 9 finalists have until Dec. 19 to build their app and submit it to Google for potential release on its Play Store. To assist in their development efforts, LG is providing each finalist with an LG G Pad on which to develop their apps, bringing their experience to life. A panel of expert judges from both LG and XDA will select one grand prize winner, in addition to a popular choice winner chosen during a public voting period. Both winners will receive an LG G Watch R and be announced on Dec. 27.
