Andrew Jenks rose to fame with his innovative MTV documentary series, World of Jenks, where he lived the life of a different person (a homeless teen, a teen with autism, a rapper, an NFL cheerleader, and more) in each episode. The World of Jenks premiere garnered 4.8 million viewers, marking it MTV's highest rated series launch. The second season of the show is set to premiere in fall 2012. Jenks is also a correspondent for MTV's 2012 election campaign, "Power of 12."
"This book is a personal look at the wild, outlandish, and dangerous journey my life has been documenting people of all walks of life. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to work with Scholastic and share my cherished experiences with the rest of the world," said author and filmmaker Andrew Jenks.
"Andrew Jenks has a unique, honest and inspirational voice that he has shared with the world through his documentary films and TV show, World of Jenks," said Debra Dorfman. "We are thrilled to publish his unforgettable personal stories and photos. This book will not only appeal to existing fans but will surely captivate new ones."
Andrew Jenks: My Adventures as a Young Filmmaker will be published in March 2013. Now teens everywhere will be able to read everything they've ever wanted to know about Andrew Jenks. The book is an opportunity for his fans-- old and new -- to learn more about the man behind the camera, from the influences of his family and living abroad, to becoming a renowned documentarian.
About Andrew Jenks:
Andrew Jenks is an award-winning filmmaker, star of MTV's critically-acclaimed series World of Jenks, and a lead correspondent for MTV's 2012 Election campaign, "Power of 12." Jenks began his filmmaking career at the age of 19 when he moved into an assisted-living facility in order to capture the true essence of this often overlooked community in HBO's, Room 335. Three years later at age 21, Jenks further pushed the boundaries of his work as he spent seven months in Japan filming the ESPN documentary, The Zen of Bobby V, which profiled American baseball manager Bobby Valentine as he managed the Chiba Lotte Marines. For his captivating portrayals of reality, The New York Times has said "Jenks takes his camera into a world that is usually invisible and shines a light on a population that many of us would just as soon forget." Currently, Jenks is set to release a collection of stories by Scholastic Books about his filmmaking experience, and his MTV docu-series World of Jenks, which showcases the lives of inspirational young people who face difficult odds, is about to go into its second season.
