SAN DIEGO, Jan. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air recently welcomed Los Angeles Dodgers Bench Coach Bob Geren to speak at an all-employee meeting. Geren talked about what it takes to be successful both professionally and personally and how it is a choice to possess a positive mindset.
Geren's sister, Mary Jean Anderson is the owner of Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air. "I'm so proud of my brother and what he's accomplished in major league baseball. He's an inspiration to me and I knew he would be an inspiration to our employees," said Anderson.
The response from the Anderson employees was overwhelmingly positive. One employee said, "One of the things that really resonates is that professionals practice. As Bob said, a shortstop might only field 4-5 ground balls in a game, but in a practice session he's liable to take about a hundred. That level of repetition and commitment is a big part of excellence."
Another said, "I honestly enjoyed the presentation. I thought it was a combination of funny, interesting, and an educational moment of many different facets of life."
"Bob brought humor, humility, honesty, insight and energy to our team. He helped us see that we too are a team and how we respond and react will determine the outcome of our day as individuals and as a group," said another employee.
Geren, a catcher, was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres in 1979; played in the minors and then for the New York Yankees; and finished back at the Padres in 1993.
His coaching career included managing the Oakland A's Minor League teams, and major league coaching positions with the Oakland A's and the NY Mets from 2011 to 2015 when the Mets won the NLCS. During his time with the Mets, Geren was praised for his "statistical aptitude" and "strong working knowledge of advanced analytics."
In 2016 Geren joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as Bench Coach. In 2017, the Dodgers played against the Houston Astros in the World Series.
