Anchin, Block & Anchin Awards 2013 Max Block & David Anchin Scholarship Winners and Continues Tradition of Charitable Giving

NEW YORK, Dec. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP proudly honors the 2013 winners of the Max Block and David Anchin Scholarships. Four exceptional candidates were chosen to receive this award, which is granted annually, in honor of Anchin's founding partners and in congruence with Anchin's core values and tradition of charitable giving. The firm has been awarding these scholarships for more than twenty years.

The Max Block and David Anchin Scholarships are awarded each year to outstanding students pursuing their education in the Accounting field at Baruch College (formerly City College), where the founding partners of Anchin, Block & Anchin attended prior to starting the firm in 1923. The award is given in association with the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the FAE Scholarship Committee, on which Anchin Partner Jeffrey Rosenthal is a long standing member. The winners are selected based on their outstanding academic performance, financial need, and recommendations from Baruch faculty. Anchin, Block & Anchin is delighted to award scholarships to Natalia Alexander, Manny Haber, Guoliang Liu, and Maricruz Romero towards their education in memory of two of the firms' founders, Mssrs. Block & Anchin, who were often described as visionaries in the accounting field. Anchin wishes all of the recipients and applicants similar accolades and continued success as they continue their endeavors to become Certified Public Accountants.

Anchin's CARE (Community and Recreational Events) Committee and industry service teams have continued their long-standing tradition of giving and volunteering in 2013. As Anchin's managing partner Frank Schettino explained, "We do these events each year because it is simply the right thing to do."

• Donating to and raising money for Doctors Without Borders in the wake of the disastrous Typhoon Haiyan.
• Walking in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and donating to Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
• Holding three blood drives per year in-office at 1375 Broadway.
• Participating in "Go Red for Women Day" in February, a fundraiser for breast cancer research
