An "Aha" Moment Transforms Mutual Fund Executive Into Professional Massage Therapist
WALL, N.J., June 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- David Garcia's "aha" moment came when, as he describes it, he was "mired in the mutual fund industry preparing financial reports," when he was hit with a "sort of 'flash of intuition' telling me to look into massage school in New Jersey." And that's exactly what the 2009 graduate of Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy New Jersey did.
Today, Garcia is successfully employed in the massage therapy industry, working three separate jobs that include being a certified neuromuscular massage therapist and an instructor at Cortiva Institute, a massage therapist with a private practice called Connection Massage and as a massage therapist for a Massage Envy location in Marlboro, NJ.
"I love all three for different reasons. I have always wanted to teach. So the position with Cortiva is wonderful, stimulating and thoroughly enjoyable. Massage Envy is a great employer and provides me with a steady, stable income. And Connection Massage means flexibility and additional income – I can make my own schedule and most importantly, be available to my family," said Garcia.
It's spending time with his family that Garcia believed he sacrificed with his former job in the financial industry. "I began my financial career life at 21, working as an office/financial manager for a small manufacturing plant. After 10 years, I moved on to a more 'corporate' setting in New York," explained Garcia. It was during that period that Garcia became disenchanted with the financial industry and its demands on his personal time and the impact on his family. He knew he had to make a change so that he could "wake up everyday knowing I was being true to myself in every area of my life."
Garcia credits Cortiva's instructors and their encouragement for helping him to make the transition from his former career to his new one as a massage therapist. "The in-depth education that I received definitely prepared me for success. I knew within one week of attending the program that I had registered at the right school. The program was thorough and incredibly challenging," he said.
Today, Garcia said he couldn't be happier with his decision to change his career and because of that, has a whole new definition of what success means to him. "When a person does something that they are passionate about, that makes them happy, that allows them to look in the mirror and be proud of who they are and what they do – that to me is success," he added.
