"Amway's Who Cares Challenge provides a unique opportunity for a group of community-minded young people to have their voices heard," said Tanios Viviani, Regional President of the Americas for Amway. "We are honored to highlight these 10 outstanding individuals who are passionate about making the world a better place."
Contest entries were collected online via WhoCaresChallenge.com, where applicants from the United States and Canada between the ages 13 and 22 were asked to share their stories of leadership in community service. Television actress Debby Ryan supported the 10 week-long contest, tweeting to followers and encouraging youth across the country to submit their stories. Entries were then narrowed down to the top 100 through online public voting, and the final winners were selected by judges from contest partner Free The Children.
"Free The Children believes in a world where all young people can achieve their fullest potential as agents of change," said Craig Kielburger, Co-Founder of Free the Children. "Youth are continuing to demonstrate that they are not apathetic and believe they have the power to make a difference. We are thrilled to witness young leaders across North America show that they care by raising their voices, responding to issues and creating amazing change in their communities through Amway's Who Cares Challenge. We're proud to help support Amway in this effort."
From teens who started nonprofits to enhance the lives of children halfway around the world, to college students who provide small business loans to local entrepreneurs, winning entries ran the gamut and showed the power of youth in driving positive change.
