Amtrak Celebrates Independence Day with Additional Discount for Members of the Military
Additional 10 percent off travel from coast-to-coast
WASHINGTON, June 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Amtrak is honoring the dedication of the nation's military this Independence Day with an additional discount for those who serve. Members of the military will receive an additional 10 percent discount on tickets purchased the week of the July 4th holiday -- July 1 through July 9 -- for travel August 21 through November 12. The 10 percent discount is in addition to Amtrak's everyday 10 percent discount for members of the military, their spouses and dependents.
"As a former member of the military, I know first-hand, the sacrifice made by members of the military and their families," said Joe Boardman, Amtrak's President and CEO. "As we celebrate Independence Day, Amtrak applauds the efforts of the men and women who wear our nation's uniform and welcomes them and their families on board." This additional discount is available to active duty members of the military, their spouses and dependents. Reservists currently serving on active duty as well as those serving as temporary active duty are also eligible. A current active duty United States Armed Forces Identification Card is required to receive the discount.
With service to more than 500 stations in 46 states, Amtrak offers service to a number of cities that are home to military bases including Albuquerque, N.M.; El Paso, Texas; Fayetteville, N.C.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; San Diego, Calif.; Tampa, Fla.; and Washington, DC. Reservations may be made online at Amtrak.com or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL using discount code V818. The military discount may be combined with Amtrak's every day Kid's Half Price fare. With this fare up to two children ages 2 to 15 travel at half price when accompanied by an adult, making Amtrak a great way for families to travel.
The military discount is not available on weekday Acela Express service or joint Amtrak/Via Rail service.
