Ampro Industries Steps Up to Help the Mid-South Food Bank

MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Recent reports of food shortages and low donations at the Mid-South Food Bank sparked Ampro Industries, Inc., to lead a collaborative effort to help the organization. The maker of America's #1 gel is teaming up with the Memphis Area undergraduate and alumni chapters of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and the University of Memphis School of Public Health for the Memphis Feeds Initiative.

On Saturday, May 19th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Ampro employees and the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, will work to package 20,000 meals at Robison Hall (3825 Desoto Avenue) located on the campus of The University of Memphis.

"The effects of the current economic situation have hit residents in the Mid-South hard, and no one should have to go hungry," said Cheri Rudner, Chairman of Ampro Industries. "Ampro Industries cares about our community and wants to do our part to help the Mid-South Food Bank continue to serve as many people as possible."

The Mid-South Food Bank supplies food to more than 325 charitable feeding programs in 31 counties. Without funding and donations, the agency will have to turn away people in need. The most needed non-perishable food items include: canned foods with meat protein, peanut butter, canned vegetables, and dried beans and rice (1 or 2 pound bags only).
