RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif., Jan. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- AMPAC Fine Chemicals LLC (AFC) has announced the appointment of Aslam Malik, Ph.D., to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective January 1, 2016. Dr. Malik has held the office of President since December 2005. He replaces former CEO Dr. Joseph Carleone who has retired and now serves as Chairman of AFC's Board of Directors. "Aslam's strategic vision and in-depth knowledge of fine chemicals has strengthened AFC's position as a leading solutions provider to the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Malik joined Aerojet's Chemical Division, which is now AMPAC Fine Chemicals, in 1991. He has over 30 years of industrial experience in the scale-up and production of fine chemicals. His most recent position also included service as an executive officer of AFC's former parent company, American Pacific Corporation. He previously served on the Board of Governors of SOCMA (Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates), the advisory board of Chemical & Engineering News, and the Scientific Advisory Board of Sacramento State University.
Dr. Malik holds a joint Doctorate degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Physics from St. Xavier's College in India.
