Amnesty Redux: Reid, Schumer and Menendez Offer Amnesty to Illegal Aliens and Empty Promises to the American People
WASHINGTON, April 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) called an outline of legislation circulated by the Senate Democratic leadership, "yet another attempt to reward illegal aliens and cheap labor employers at the expense of the American public." The outline, offered by Senators Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) offers amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and family members residing outside the U.S., and increased flows of unskilled foreign labor, in exchange for promises of future enforcement – many of which the authors acknowledge have been made and broken in the past.
The Reid-Schumer-Menendez outline includes no assessment of the proposed law's impact on American workers, taxpayers, social service, government budgets, or population growth in the United States. Moreover, the outline's framework for future immigration enforcement includes no guarantees that they will ever be implemented or funded.
"Once again, the Democratic leadership is acknowledging their failure to uphold their responsibilities to secure our nation's borders, protect American workers, and enforce existing immigration laws. Rather than carry through on these responsibilities, the Senate majority leader and other senior Democrats are holding enforcement of our immigration laws hostage to amnesty for illegal aliens and the demands of cheap labor employers," charged Dan Stein, president of FAIR.
"The Democratic leaders know what needs to be done. They acknowledge that they have failed to keep earlier promises," Stein said. "It is time for them to secure our borders, implement a universal work authorization system, crack down on employers who hire illegal aliens, and encourage millions of illegal aliens to return home by removing the expectation that breaking our laws will be rewarded with amnesty.
"The American people have repeatedly made it clear that amnesty and millions of new foreign workers are unacceptable and harmful to the long-term interests of the country. The public wants current record levels of immigration reduced not increased. Americans will not be bought-off by this cynical attempt to repackage amnesty and massive immigration increases under the guise of 'immigration reform,'" Stein concluded.
