The scholars, each among their school's most outstanding students, were selected from hundreds of resumes received from across the nation seeking entry into AmeriLife's inaugural intern class. Each intern has excelled scholastically; has an interest in one of the industry-related career fields at AmeriLife; and passed a rigorous culling process to merit an invitation for summer employment.
The internships – an intensive, eight-week, paid position at the insurance marketing giant's corporate headquarters in Clearwater, FL – are designed to introduce the participants to a wide range of insurance disciplines, business practices, industry processes and corporate leaders.
"We selected students who are clearly a head above their peers at college, and put them in a position of access and responsibility historically not granted summer interns," said Director of Human Resources Mike Massrock. "We're anticipating fresh ideas from today's bright young minds on how to market and distribute insurance products to Millennials."
Each intern is assigned a specific job and project – based on college studies and career goals – and will be provided first-hand exposure to programs, policies and procedures specific to the industry. Each intern will receive mentoring from department managers and executives, and will integrate with the organization's leaders.
The inaugural class of AmeriLife summer interns is:
- Brian Bendana, a Florida International University sophomore majoring in accounting, is working for Chief Accounting Officer Karen Surplus;
- Alayna Brown, a University of Oklahoma senior studying Journalism/Communications and Advertising, works with Marketing Communications Director Kathy Blais;
- Prati Prajapati is a Master's degree candidate (Information Technology Management) at the University of Texas; he is assigned to AmeriLife's IT department.
"I have great expectations of this exceptional group of college students," said AmeriLife's CEO Timothy North. "They are a talented group of extraordinary individuals who will be tutored, challenged and empowered, and given a chance to excel early in their careers."
