America's Vacationers Target Value Destinations Like Branson, Missouri
Live Entertainment, Outdoor Adventure and Silver Dollar City Top Picks
BRANSON, Mo., July 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- School's out and summer's on as America's families take to the roads, often searching for the best value in a vacation getaway. With Internet planning on the rise -- along with gas prices and temperatures -- Branson, Missouri is recently ranking tops on Internet travel lists where value and quality come together, such as TripAdvisor's Top 25 Travelers' Choice for 2014 and Top 10 in America's Best Value Destinations by Trivago.com. Branson is noted for its 50 live performance theaters, championship golf courses, pristine lakes, the Ozark Mountains and the international award-winning theme park, Silver Dollar City.
"Combining outdoor adventure, amusements and live entertainment is something the Branson area can deliver as an affordable getaway for families traveling with people of all ages," said Lisa Rau with Silver Dollar City, a popular 1880s-themed park set inside the mountainscape of the Ozarks.
"While this region offers seasonal change, it's right now, summertime, when the families make their trek to this region of outdoor beauty with a variety of entertainment," Rau added, pointing out that two million visitors visit Silver Dollar City, which has become an international coaster-fan destination with the debut of the groundbreaking, triple-inversion wood coaster Outlaw Run. Outlaw Run was named the Best New Ride of 2013 worldwide in a poll by Amusement Today magazine – and was just this week showcased as the top-ranked ride in the June 29 episode of Travel Channel's "Insane Coaster Wars: World Domination." Another accolade is a spotlight by CNN.com as one of the 12 biggest game-changers in the history of theme park attractions. In addition to Outlaw Run, the park has 30 rides and attractions, 100 demonstrating craftsmen, plus shows and food within the seasonal festival themes. Now featured is the family-focused Star-Spangled Summer festival presenting the Flying Ace All-Stars, Olympic athletes and contenders performing high-flying stunts on trampolines.
Branson's three lakes offer activities from wakeboarding to scuba diving to bass and fly fishing, and the 700-seat paddle wheeler Showboat Branson Belle's cruises include dining and one of Branson's best shows onboard. Water fun is available in the middle of the Branson strip too: the tropically themed water park White Water just opened a new $1.7 million drop-floor thrill slide, KaPau Plummet, just one of the rides at the 13-acre park.
Shows feature live performances from country to rock, comedy to full production shows. Attractions include the Titanic Museum Attraction, go-karts, zip lines, the upscale Branson Landing development noted for shopping and dining, and nine golf courses, including two championship courses: The Payne Stewart Golf Club and the new Top of the Rock Golf Course, now home to the PGA Legends of Golf Tournament.
