America's Top TA 2013 Competition by CengageBrain Awards Impactful TAs with Scholarships in Their Names
Teaching Assistants from UAB, UIUC and MSU Voted Favorite in the Nation
CHICAGO, May 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- This spring, college students from around the country were able to nominate and vote for America's Top TA by CengageBrain. Today, with a combined total of over 750 votes, the three winners are announced. Congratulations to:
- Megan Sugrue – University of Alabama at Birmingham
- Mioy Huynh – University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- Cameron Keif – Michigan State University
In addition to receiving the title of America's Top TA, CengageBrain.com, the premier destination for purchasing and renting textbooks, eBooks and learning solutions, will create one $2,500 scholarship in the name of each winning TA, all of whom will help determine the scholarships' criteria and recipients. These three TAs went above and beyond the call of duty, giving their students what they need to not only succeed but to excel, and their schools could not be prouder!
"Megan is dedicated to ensuring that our students truly understand, and more importantly, truly enjoy learning about the anatomy of the human body," according to Dana Peterson, Assistant Professor of Biology at University of Alabama-Birmingham. "We are grateful for her efforts and her enthusiasm, she is certainly deserving of this scholarship in her name."
"Mioy is one of the best TAs I've ever had," said Dr. Christian R. Ray, Lecturer and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Illinois. "He consistently went the extra step to make sure his students understood the material including holding extra office hours and review sessions, providing worked-out solutions to old exams, and developing his own study guides."
And Eric Torng, Associate Professor and Graduate Director at Michigan State University, expressed the Spartans' sentiment, "We are delighted that Cameron Keif has been selected for this honor. Cameron is one of many excellent TAs that work for our department and provide all of our undergraduate students with excellent instruction."
CengageBrain's Top TA competition allowed college students to recognize the TAs who made the greatest impacts on their educations as well as that of their classmates.
