America's Test Kitchen Launches Kids Multi-Media Brand
America's Test Kitchen Kids Dedicated to Instructing and Inspiring the Next Generation of Cooks
BOSTON, Sept. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- America's Test Kitchen (ATK) has launched a new multi-media brand dedicated to instructing and inspiring the next generation of empowered cooks, engaged eaters, and curious experimenters. America's Test Kitchen Kids features kid-tested and kid-approved content, including cookbooks, board books, picture books, digital products and comprehensive video programming. The brand uses food to create natural—and delicious—hands-on activities that teach about STEAM: science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
"America's Test Kitchen Kids leverages our scientific know-how and culture of rigorous testing to create meaningful learning experiences for children," said David Nussbaum, CEO of America's Test Kitchen. "Being able to take the America's Test Kitchen model that has helped millions of home cooks and apply it to the new generation of emerging cooks is exciting. Our goal is to take all kids seriously, so they can cook real meals happily—all while learning through their mistakes and having fun in the process," he said.
This month, America's Test Kitchen Kids launched its website, www.ATKkids.com. The new, free site is designed to inspire excitement and experimentation in the kitchen for kids ages 8 to 13, and features kid-tested and kid-approved recipes, experiments, fun quizzes and trivia. Recipes include everything from homemade rainbow sprinkles to the best ever Sheet Pan Pizza. Experiments on the site help answer important questions like "Why does popcorn pop?" and "How does cheese melt?"
The site also includes food-focused video content in which a small group of young adults, ages 14 to 18, help engage and teach younger kids—through recipes, experiments, and kitchen techniques. All video content was shot in America's Test Kitchen studio kitchens and features local Boston-area talent. Additional recipes, activities, and videos will be added to the site in the coming months. Each of the hands-on activities use food to teach about STEAM: science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
"Our goal is to foster a community in which all children are empowered to take the lead in the kitchen and are excited to learn about the world around them through the lenses of food and cooking," said Molly Birnbaum, Editor in Chief of America's Test Kitchen Kids. "We want to encourage kids to take risks, embrace and learn from failure, and develop a healthy and positive relationship with food".
To ensure that our recipes and activities are kid-tested and kid-approved, America's Test Kitchen relies on over 2,000 young home cooks to test recipes and activities at home, sending in feedback via survey. America's Test Kitchen Kids also brings small groups of kids into the test kitchen to cook with the team one-on-one. Parents can enroll their children on https://www.americastestkitchen.com/kids_recipe_testing so they can test in their own kitchens.
The first America's Test Kitchen Kids cookbook—The Complete Cookbook for Young Chefs, published in partnership with Sourcebooks, a leading book and media publisher, features more than 100 kid-tested and kid-approved recipes for ages 8 to 13 and will be published on October 16th. In addition, two new imaginative board books—A is for Artichoke: A Foodie Alphabet from Artichoke to Zest and 123 The Farm and Me: Following Food from the Farm to Your Family—will be published on October 16th.
On Sunday, September 16th, America's Test Kitchen Kids will host ATK Kids Fest at our headquarters at Boston's Seaport. There will be live cooking and science demos, interactive tasting and activity stations, face-painting, music, and more. Demos and activities are geared towards kids ages 8 - 13, but the event is suitable for all ages.
