America's Road Team Captains Selected for Weight Loss Challenge
Healthy Fleet's Ten Pound Challenge Begins New Year's Day
ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, American Trucking Associations and America's Road Team are pleased to announce the selection of five America's Road Team Captains for the Healthy Fleet 10 Pound Challenge.
"America's Road Team Captains are the public face of trucking's 7.3 million professional truck drivers and the team has a strong platform for spreading positive health and wellness messages," said ATA COO and Executive Vice President of Industry Affairs Elisabeth Barna. "ATA extends our thanks to Healthy Fleet for choosing these five deserving Captains to participate in the challenge and we look forward to seeing them achieve their health goals in the coming months."
Healthy Fleet's 10 Pound Challenge runs from New Year's Day to the end of February. Participants will have 59 days to form healthy eating habits and activity plans in hopes of losing weight or reaching other health goals. Healthy Fleet's team of nutritionists and coaches will assist participating drivers throughout the process, providing valuable information and feedback in order to produce lasting results.
Truck drivers face unique health challenges in their day to day work. Being seated for long periods of time and having limited access to nutritious foods contribute to reduced levels of fitness and well-being. ATA recently released a video on health topics, focusing on exercise routines, diet options and getting proper amounts of rest.
"We see the 10 Pound Challenge as a great opportunity for truck drivers throughout North America to take a closer look at their daily routines and build healthier habits," said America's Road Team Captain John Lex, a participant in the challenge. "Like millions of other Americans who are entering 2017 with health goals, truck drivers need resources and support to become healthier. I'm excited for the challenge and am looking forward to seeing my fellow America's Road Team Captains succeed."
America's Road Team Captains selected to participate in Healthy Fleet's 10 Pound Challenge include:
- Allen Boyd, Walmart Transportation
- Charlie Demchock, Walmart Transportation
- John Lex, Walmart Transportation
- John McCown, UPS Freight
- Russ Simpson, Holland
America's Road Team is asking the trucking community to show support and encouragement for the team's five participants. Throughout January and February, America's Road Team will be posting updates on the challenge to its official Facebook and Twitter accounts. Follow along to see these truck drivers conquer their 2017 health goals and spread the word about the importance of health in the trucking industry.
