America's Natural Gas Alliance Names Daniel Whitten Vice President of Strategic Communications
WASHINGTON, March 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- America's Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) announced today that veteran energy journalist Daniel Whitten will join the organization on March 11, 2010 as vice president of strategic communications. Whitten will help lead the association's efforts to promote the environmental, economic and national security benefits of clean, abundant and North American natural gas.
Whitten comes to ANGA after serving as Bloomberg News' energy reporter in Washington, where he covered legislative, regulatory and financial aspects of U.S. climate and energy policy debates. Through his work, Whitten established strong relationships with the national and trade press following these issues, as well as the industry and policy players from both parties who are shaping the nation's efforts to embrace cleaner, smarter energy choices.
"Dan's knowledge of the industry and the news media will be a tremendous asset to ANGA's efforts to promote the use of natural gas in advancing our nation's clean-energy future and economy," said ANGA President and CEO Regina Hopper. "Dan's experience and insights on the national energy landscape will be invaluable as we work to demonstrate that this clean, made-in-America energy source is available right now to help our nation reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create clean-energy jobs."
Whitten joins ANGA as the association seeks to raise awareness of the game-changing nature of the North American shale plays that have unlocked vast domestic supplies of natural gas -- enough to power our nation for generations to come. Natural gas currently is underutilized in the United States, meaning a greater use of this abundant domestic resource would begin to immediately reduce the country's carbon footprint.
"I look forward to helping Americans better understand the extraordinary opportunity presented by new vast supplies of domestic natural gas, '' Whitten said. "It's a fantastic opportunity to make the case for natural gas and how it can benefit both our economy and our environment, while helping reduce U.S. dependence on overseas oil.''
Prior to working at Bloomberg, Whitten was primary congressional correspondent for Platts, a McGraw-Hill Co. energy publisher. He also has won three awards from the American Society for Business Publication Editors. Whitten holds a Master's degree in environmental science and policy from Johns Hopkins University.
