America's Leading Landowners Add More Than 1 Million Acres

DALLAS, Jan. 29, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- America's leading landowners owned substantially more private land on Dec. 31 than they did at the beginning of 2018. That's one of the key takeaways from the 2018 Land Report 100 sponsored by LandLeader.

According to the annual survey, an area in excess of 2,000 square miles — five times the size of New York City — was added to the ownership of the Land Report 100.

Cable industry pioneers John Malone and Ted Turner top the list of the nation's largest landowners with 2.2 million acres and 2 million acres, respectively. Other leading landowners include the King Ranch Heirs, who rank tenth nationwide with more than 900,000 acres, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who ranks twenty-eighth. Bezos uses his 420,000-acre Texas ranch to launch and land rockets.
