Americans United for Life Launches Dynamic New Chapter with Catherine Glenn Foster as CEO
Innovative attorney to head America's first national pro-life organization
"This is a transformative moment that will ultimately determine how we care for and strengthen the women in our lives," said Foster. "We can empower them with evidence-based truth, the strongest legal protections, and truly holistic support that embraces the whole person. Or we can abandon them to abortion industry abuses."
WASHINGTON, May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Americans United for Life Board Chairman Jay Cunningham and AUL Acting President Clarke Forsythe announced on Monday that attorney Catherine Glenn Foster, M.A., J.D., is taking the helm as President and CEO of America's leading national pro-life legal organization. "After an exhaustive nationwide search lasting more than a year, AUL's leadership team found a new face, a new direction, and a new vision for the pro-life community. In Catherine, we welcome a committed pro-life attorney and human rights advocate whose legal career and civic engagements have been continuously employed to promote a culture of life. She combines legal expertise with proven innovation and has unique personal experiences in defending life. Her work and her life story make her the right person to hold the profit-driven abortion industry accountable for the abusive treatment women have received there," said Cunningham.

Foster's work with AUL first began while she was still in law school. "Even as a student, she organized legal minds in defense of life as a cofounder of Advocates for Life, the pro-life law student group that later joined with AUL, and served as an AUL Legal Fellow. Today, her passionate defense of human life, from conception to natural death, has made her a regular commentator in the media and a sought-after expert on life in the law at the state and federal levels," said Cunningham.
After seven years with Alliance Defending Freedom, Foster founded and managed a law practice focusing on respect for the sanctity of human life. She also served as Executive Director of Euthanasia Prevention Coalition USA and as Chairman of the Board of Rockville Pregnancy Clinic. Admitted to the bar in Washington D.C. and Virginia, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal courts, Foster has litigated abortion and maternal health, euthanasia and assisted suicide, health and safety regulations, False Claims Act healthcare fraud, open records requests, conscience protections, and constitutional aspects of the right to life. She earned her J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center, and also holds an M.A. in French from the University of South Florida and a B.A. in history and French from Berry College.
"Whether arguing in a courtroom, testifying on Capitol Hill, or speaking to the national press, Catherine demonstrates a passionate focus," said Forsythe. The nation's leading expert on the Roe v. Wade decision, Forsythe will continue to focus on AUL's Reversing Roe strategy, heading the effort to prepare both for a Supreme Court review and a return of the life issue to state legislatures. "In the wake of the 2016 elections, the need to prepare for state legislative control of the life issue is more viable than ever," observed Forsythe.
Foster will be based in Washington D.C., overseeing AUL's work across the country as well as at the federal level.
"Americans United for Life uniquely combines a knowledge of and commitment to the law with forward-thinking, innovative solutions. I am proud to join AUL's efforts to build a culture of life and empower pro-life advocates with the best tools and messaging available. And I am delighted to work with Clarke, who I have respected for years as the authority on overturning Roe, as he and our team at AUL craft pioneering, effective strategies for defending life," said Foster. "The abortion industry and its political allies view people as commodities and profit from ending lives. But we will stand with women who deserve more from life than the abortion industry wants to sell to them. We will fight for people who are injured or disabled, to ensure that the people charged to care for and protect them follow through and do not push them into premature death. And we will defend the conscience rights of those who want no part in ending life. AUL is shaping a world in which life is protected from conception to natural death because every human being deserves respect and protection."
