BELLEVUE, Wash., Nov. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Nintex, the leading provider of workflow and content automation (WCA) software, announced the release of its new Nintex State of Productivity Survey, which revealed that employees in both public and private sectors tend to share a common view of technology and work. See survey results video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLvpThTLtjQ.
"There is a consistent belief that private organizations have better technology, are more efficient, less bureaucratic, and have bigger budgets," says Nintex VP Mike Fitzmaurice. "The Nintex State of Productivity survey set out to test these perceptions in advance of the U.S. election."
In October 2016, Nintex, www.nintex.com, commissioned a survey of 600 employees from private and government (local, state, and federal) organizations to understand how they use technology today and how they plan to use it in the future; the findings include:
- Consistent Use of Modern Technology - About 70 percent of all respondents indicated that their technology and systems within their organizations were relatively up to date, while about 20 percent from both sectors described their organizations' IT tools as "antiquated." However, employees in both sectors agreed that company-issued or mandated technology was not enough to get their work done.
- Putting Multiple Apps to Work - Survey respondents, almost equally across both sectors, reported using three to five different technology systems (45 percent of public and nearly 50 percent of private). Interestingly, 50 percent of public employees and 47 percent of private employees also said they were using one to two personal mobile apps "not issued" by the organization to do their work. In one differentiator, a small group of private sector employees (11 percent) reported using more than 11 non-issued apps to get their jobs done.
- The Shift from On-prem to Cloud Solutions - Thirty-four percent of private company employees and 25 percent of public employees reported that more than half of their technology systems were cloud based. Only 3 percent of both sectors reported that all of their organization's technology systems were cloud-based, and 12 percent of private and 15 percent of public respondents said they were still running everything on premises.
- Top Tech Requests: Workflow Automation & Collaboration - Workflow or process automation technologies and collaboration tools rank as the top priorities for both government and business professionals. In fact, 38 percent of private and 44 percent of public survey respondents listed workflow automation as their number one tech priority. In the private sector, nearly the same (39 percent) ranked collaboration tools as a key tech need, while 29 percent of public company respondents cited collaboration solutions as an imperative.
- Need to Expedite More Administrative Tasks - Forty-two percent of public employees reported spending more than half their time on administrative tasks, while 22 percent of private employees say the same. Nonetheless, both said they wanted to spend less time on administrative tasks if possible.
- One-Third Report an Increase in Tech Spending - Budgets for technology purchases in 2017 were similar across sectors as well. More than 30 percent from both private (38 percent) and public (32 percent) respondents said IT budgets will increase, while about 50 percent of each group reported flat budgets. Approximately 15 percent said budgets will decline.
"American workers stand united in the way they work regardless of where they work," concluded Fitzmaurice. "The Nintex State of Productivity Survey shows that everyone is looking for ways to work better and together. Wise organization leaders will capitalize on this information by optimizing their future IT spending to focus on automating administrative as well as mission-critical processes while making it easier for their employees to collaborate."
