Americans for Fair Taxation® Launches Summer Outcry to Young Voters
FairTaxers unveil YouTube video; rally to recruit support of 18-29 year-olds in every Congressional district
HOUSTON, Aug. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Alarmed by recent studies showing that the median net worth for young households is down 68 percent from a quarter century ago, combined with an unprecedented 1.7 million American young people ages 18-29 who have been out of work for more than a year (the highest unemployment for that age group since World War II), Americans for Fair Taxation® (AFFT) today launched a renewed campaign to recruit 3,000 new FairTax® supporters in each of 435 Congressional districts.
Said Leo Linbeck, Jr., co-founder and CEO of AFFT, "Adding 1.3 million new FairTax activists will give expression to legions of frustrated and desperate taxpayers whose voice has been lost to Washington's special interest cartel."
Kicking off this campaign, AFFT unveiled its new video, "FairTax: Fire Up Our Economic Engine," chronicling the saga of an unemployed college graduate, who like so many of his peers, has been forced to move back into his parents' home - unemployed and defeated by the lack of job prospects. The video is available for viewing on YouTube and at www.fairtax.org.
Added Linbeck, "Citizens are coming to the realization that their desperate pleas for comprehensive tax replacement are falling on deaf ears: their voice being lost to the special interest lobby, which seeks to ensure re-election of favored candidates while procuring one tax exemption after another. We intend to take the FairTax message of hope to the citizenry, who today and for decades, are paying for this special interest largess."
The FairTax Plan calls for replacement of the current Federal Income Tax system with a fair, simple and transparent national sales tax, taxing citizens on what they spend and not on what they earn. The FairTax has the broadest base and the lowest rate of any single-rate tax reform plan yet eliminates all payroll, estate, gift, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, self-employment and corporate taxes.
Linbeck concluded, "It's clear that after years of partisan wrangling about tax policy, our country is at a stalemate. Taxation is not a Democrat or Republican issue – it's an American issue. The FairTax is the only option that will generate the revenue we need to run our nation in a way that eliminates special interests and paves the way for future prosperity for the youth of our nation."
About Fair Tax
Americans For Fair Taxation was formed in 1995. It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization solely dedicated to replacing the current tax system with a progressive national retail sales tax, a "prebate" to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.
