American Wagering Announces Nevada Regulators Approve LEROY'S® APP© for Android Mobile Sports Betting Field Trial
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- American Wagering, Inc.: (OTC Bulletin Board: BETM), a leading sports wagering service and technology provider, announced today that the Nevada Gaming Control Board approved the LEROY'S® APP© on the Android platform to begin a field trial immediately. This approval allows the Company to expand into the fastest growing segment of the smartphone industry. Leroy's, the bookmaking subsidiary of Las Vegas based American Wagering, was the first licensed gaming company to enter the projected 48 billion dollar mobile wagering sector in the United States with its approval for mobile sports betting within the state of Nevada last September.
"The addition of the Android platform to our mobile wagering product is a significant step forward in our strategic plan to become the clear leader in the mobile gaming sector," stated Bob Kocienski, Chief Operating Officer of American Wagering.
The LEROY'S® APP© has operated mobile betting successfully for the last five months in Nevada. The public and the gaming industry heralded the 32 year-old Company as groundbreaking innovators in the mobile technology arena. The application is very intuitive and easy to use. Customers first must open a sports betting account with Leroy's and then can begin betting from anywhere within the borders of Nevada. Information on new account set up and locations can be found at Leroy's website www.leroys.com. Account wagering is growing worldwide and American Wagering has positioned itself for future growth within America and legal sports betting jurisdictions globally. The LEROY'S® APP© allows for a full functioning sportsbook and it offers a full menu of sporting events as well as in-game betting, propositions, and contests that keep the customer engaged and entertained.
"This field trial delivers on our promise to revolutionize the sports betting industry. The Nevada regulators have been most cooperative in furthering our efforts. They are very knowledgeable and thorough. They understand new technology and where it's headed. We are very pleased they have authorized this Android field trial," stated John English, Senior Vice President of American Wagering.
The Company has reinvented itself over the last two years through convenient technological advances such as self-service terminals located in casinos and local taverns. With the advent of their mobile platform, they expect to gain the critical mass needed to make in-game betting (betting while the game is in progress) and other spontaneous offerings truly successful. "We had in-game betting back in 2003 and it was not a great venture when you only have a few casinos participating. It takes that critical mass such as statewide smartphones to make it work properly. Just having a few handheld devices checked out in a casino doesn't work so we put kiosks in the casinos and moved to mobile phones that can be used anywhere to get the audience needed for that product offering to work correctly," added English.
"The new field trial authorized by the Nevada regulators for the Android platform gives the Company two of the four major platforms to distribute the LEROY'S® APP© and we are rapidly striving to be on the iPhone, Windows 7, and tablets such as BlackBerry's Playbook and Apple's iPad as part of our new development path. This is the start of a new era in sports betting and our customers can expect to see great things ahead as we move further into the future," stated Kocienski. Leroy's currently operates the largest number of sportsbooks in America with over 76 outlets in the state and growing at a rapid pace.
