BALTIMORE, Jan. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Urological Association (AUA) announced today the formation of a political action committee. The committee, officially known as the AUA Political Action Committee (AUAPAC) aims to advance the association's advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill.
The new AUA PAC offers our nation's urologic community (including both clinical and academic practicing urologists, advanced practice providers, researchers, allied providers and others), a platform from which to speak out in support of political candidates and policies impacting their community.
"AUAPAC helps AUA participate in the political process to advance the specialty of urology and enhance the care of the patients we serve," said AUA President Robert C. Flanigan.
The AUA submitted its statement of organization with the Federal Election Commission on November 16, 2018. "Establishing an AUA-led PAC is the logical next step in solidifying the AUA's role in coordinating urology's advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C.," said Dr. Flanigan. "The AUA will continue to work with like-minded groups to align our messages to policymakers and amplify the voices of urologists and their patients in our nation's capital."
A PAC board, comprised of urologists and other leaders with an interest in the field of urology, will guide the nonpartisan political action committee. AUAPAC will follow specific principles and criteria in determining recipients of political contributions.
