WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Red Cross, the premiere provider of resuscitation and first aid training, today announced its new resuscitation education program that meets certification and licensing requirements for healthcare, EMS and other public safety professionals.
The Red Cross Resuscitation Suite™ program consists of Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses that leverage the latest learning technologies to surpass current available options. The Red Cross courses are scientifically equivalent and educationally superior to those currently available.
Innovative learning methodology advances include:
- Online adaptive learning which allows participants to customize their learning path and save up to 50 percent of instruction time by using pre-assessments to test out of content already mastered;
- Actual physicians, nurses and other healthcare staff in hospital settings who use critical thinking, decision-making and teaming concepts in videos and simulations;
- The ability to access online content on any computer, tablet or mobile device anywhere, anytime - enhancing learner efficiency; and
- Enhanced ADA compliant materials making this the most inclusive resuscitation curriculum in the nation.
"The Red Cross curriculum reduces instruction time, organizational costs and improves resuscitation outcomes," said David Markenson, MD, FACEP, FAAP, FCCM, FACHE, Chair of the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council and First Aid Task Force member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). "The Red Cross is proud that this new curriculum has been adopted by the Military Health System and Department of Defense (DoD). To date, more than 9,000 of their instructors and 30,000 students have been certified using the new curriculum. By year-end, we expect more than 250,000 to be certified."
As previously announced, the American Red Cross and HealthStream have signed a long-term agreement to work together to improve resuscitation outcomes in healthcare organizations. As part of this collaboration, the Red Cross Resuscitation Suite™ program provides a fundamental element of HealthStream's overall resuscitation solution for hospitals and healthcare professionals. The Red Cross Resuscitation Suite™ program, which is now available on HealthStream's platform—the most widely adopted workforce development platform among the nation's hospitals and health systems, offers certification to hospital-based healthcare professionals.
