WASHINGTON, April 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Red Cross is teaming up with iHeartRadio and What's Trending for a Tubeathon, which will be live-streamed on Wednesday, April 20 from 7-9 p.m. PT. In combination with Red Cross's 2Steps2Minutes campaign and Red Cross Giving Day, this year's Tubeathon focuses on how to #help1family after a home fire. Nearly every eight minutes, the Red Cross meets a family that has lost everything due to a home fire or another disaster, and the Tubeathon is a way people can help provide hope for these families in their time of need.
"The Tubeathon is a powerful platform that brings together entertainers and influencers to raise awareness and funds for families affected by emergencies or disasters," said Gail McGovern, American Red Cross President and CEO. "We are thrilled to be involved in this unique concert event as part of our Giving Day awareness and educational programs."
The Tubeathon will bring together numerous celebrities and social media influencers, who traditionally generate more than 200 million social media impressions combined. The event, hosted by Shira Lazar will include performances by:
- Alyson Stoner
- BC Jean and Mark Ballas
- Chanel West Coast
- Melanie Martinez
- iLoveMemphis
- Tyler Hilton
- DSharp
- 80Fitz
- Sky Blue
Donations can be made now by visiting redcross.org/givingday. All donations will be processed on April 21, 2016. In addition, a $10 donation to the Red Cross can be made by texting REDCROSS to 90999.
The Tubeathon will be live streamed from the iHeart Theater in Los Angeles on www.redcross.org/tubeathon and twitch.tv/whatstrending. Throughout the live stream, viewers will be encouraged to participate and donate to the Red Cross by using hashtag #help1family. For every tweet with the #help1family hashtag, Craigslist Founder Craig Newmark will donate $1 to the Red Cross.
