American Red Cross, FEMA and Verizon to Hold Sept. 27 News Conference on Emergency Preparedness

FAIRFIELD, N.J., Sept. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Last year's rare October snowstorm, which knocked out power for thousands of New Jerseyeans, served as a stark reminder of the need for emergency planning and knowing how to communicate with friends and family during prolonged emergency situations.  

To remind the public that National Preparedness Month should not only be recognized just in September, representatives from the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Verizon will hold a news conference on Thursday (Sept. 27) to offer key tips to create a disaster preparedness plan and discuss new ways consumers and businesses can use technology to communicate in the event of an emergency.  With the upcoming severe winter weather season or any disaster situation, no person should be without a plan to stay safe and connected. 

Also on display at the news conference will be emergency equipment that the Red Cross and Verizon deploy in emergency situations, such as phone banks and mobile cell sites.
